\nWhat ideas have we got so far?
\n
\nMany of the ideas discussed seem tailor made (pardon the pun) for the involvement of Heads of Department. Could there be a reduction in their teaching loads to support these initiatives? (I'm thinking of the 30+ teachers and half a dozen curriculum areas Liz & I each will be working with and responsible for next year and the equivalent responsibilities for HODs in other subschools)","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"16190765","dateCreated":"1256976379","smartDate":"Oct 31, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"dyoun85","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/dyoun85","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/varsity-development.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/16190765"},"dateDigested":1532287610,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"general comment","description":"I would really like to see Varsity:
\n1. getting involved in more networking with other schools - we rarely do this.
\n2. establish an induction program for new staff.
\nDoes anyone know of existing networks on the Gold Coast? I only know of the Beginning Teacher's Network which is not really relevant to all teachers.
\nThe Bayside Learning & Development Network (BLDN)in Bris used to hold weekly PD sessions for schools in the district with visiting speakers, workshops, 'best practice' sharing days- they were great. Voluntary attendance, after school, free if the school was a member of the BLDN, fantastic range of speakers (John Joseph - Brain Research, Michael Carr-Gregg - Educational Psychology & Boys Education)
\n
\nIt would be great if we could start something like this at Varsity - a program of guest speakers - free to teachers, with a focus on curriculum, pedagogy & assessment.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"16228443","body":"This certainly a strategy that we could explore Debbie. At one of the schools I served in we developed a process called 'Expert Down The Hall', where colleagues from within the school offered professional development workshops and activities to their colleagues within the school. The advantage of this was that they were always accessible to support teacher reflection and ongoing skill development. I have also been involved in a network PD strategy in my network called 'Gourmet PD', very similar to the model you write about. Let's explore this more.","dateCreated":"1257126071","smartDate":"Nov 1, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"andrewpt","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/andrewpt","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1256789756\/andrewpt-lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
