{"content":{"sharePage":{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"16591795","dateCreated":"1257737099","smartDate":"Nov 8, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"andrewpt","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/andrewpt","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1256789756\/andrewpt-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/varsity-development.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/16591795"},"dateDigested":1532287604,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Lesson Study","description":"Lesson Study<br \/>\n<br \/>\nKEY POINTS<br \/>\n<br \/>\nLesson study is a professional learning and growth strategy that was first developed in Japan, built around a cycle of planning, observing and revising joint lessons, or units of work. <br \/>\n<br \/>\nIn lesson study teachers:<br \/>\n<br \/>\n\u2022    work together to form goals for student learning. <br \/>\n\u2022    in a team meeting, collaboratively plan a lesson designed to meet both short and long term learning goals<br \/>\n\u2022    teach the lesson, with one team member teaching and others gathering evidence on student learning<br \/>\n\u2022    in a subsequent team meeting, discuss the evidence they gather during the lesson in a non-judgmental way, using it to improve the lesson, the unit of work, and overall instruction.<br \/>\n\u2022    teach the revised lesson in another classroom, if they desire, and study and improve it again.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nThrough this process, teachers collaboratively deepen their knowledge of content, pedagogy, and student learning, and increase their access to their colleagues. <br \/>\n<br \/>\nREQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS<br \/>\n<br \/>\n\u2022    Teachers must be willing to invest time and energy into developing, reviewing and revising lessons or units of work.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n\u2022    A willingness to collaborate and to recognise that all teachers can be better at teaching.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n\u2022    A willingness to open up our classrooms to colleagues<br \/>\n<br \/>\n\u2022    Administrative support and resources are required for lesson study to be most effective. At the very least, a period of time is developed where all team participants are available at the same time for planning, revision and refinement.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nPOTENTIAL INHIBITORS<br \/>\n<br \/>\n\u2022    Lack of time to conduct lesson study planning, observation and review elements.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n\u2022    Lack of true collaboration between colleagues<br \/>\n<br \/>\n\u2022    Making judgmental observations from classroom observation","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
